Description
The YBA Heritage CD200 is a high-end CD player that also incorporates a full DAC section, allowing it to function either as a conventional CD player or as a standalone digital-to-analogue converter connected to a computer or another digital source.
The Cirrus Logic WM8741 converter handles signal conversion, whilst the USB Type B input, driven by an XMOS XU208 chip, accepts files up to 24-bit/192 kHz as well as DSD64 format. The coaxial and optical digital inputs, compatible with 24-bit/192 kHz, allow the unit to be used as an external DAC with another CD transport. On the output side, the balanced XLR outputs offer a signal-to-noise ratio of 113 dB and a level of 4V, compared with 108 dB and 2V for the gold-plated RCA outputs, with this balanced connection providing better noise immunity over long cable runs. The frequency response spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz (-0.5 dB) with total harmonic distortion and noise below 0.001%, ensuring faithful signal reproduction.
A coaxial digital output also allows the CD200 to be used as a simple transport, connected to an external DAC.
This player is aimed at music enthusiasts who listen to CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs and wish to retain a physical format whilst having a DAC capable of playing dematerialised files stored on a computer, within a Hi-Fi system preferably equipped with balanced XLR inputs.

What to check before buying used
The optical CD reading mechanism is the component most prone to wear on this type of unit: it is worth checking that playback of CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs remains stable, without skipping or recognition issues. The transport's rocker switches, characteristic of this model, should also be tested in both directions to confirm proper mechanical operation. The linear power supply with R-Core transformer can also be checked by listening for the absence of hum or background noise at idle.
